Can sport become a catalyst for nature restoration? Join this REWET Innovation Observatory event to explore how the sport sector can mobilise communities, unlock funding opportunities, and support wetland restoration through innovative cross-sector collaboration.
The upcoming REWET Innovation Observatory event, “Sport for the Environment: From Awareness to Investment”, will explore how sport can move beyond awareness-raising and become a driver of collaboration, funding, and environmental action.
Organised as a partner event of EU Green Week 2026 , this online session will bring together perspectives from science, sport, business, and policy to discuss how the sport sector can support wetland restoration and nature-positive investment.

About the event
The sport sector depends on healthy ecosystems, yet it is increasingly affected by climate change and environmental degradation. At the same time, sport has strong potential to mobilise communities, inspire behavioural change, and unlock new funding streams for nature restoration.
This event will explore the sport–climate–nature nexus and highlight opportunities for nature-positive sponsorship, innovative funding models, and cross-sector collaboration for wetland restoration.
The session will also include an interactive component where participants will help co-create new collaboration strategies to support wetland restoration.
This event is organised in collaboration with and features speakers from organisations including the United Nations Environment Programme Global Peatlands Initiative, Kilian Jornet Foundation, and International Union for Conservation of Nature – Sports for Nature Initiative.
